If you use the NSW Health Mastercard to salary package both living expenses and meal entertainment, instead of having two separate cards, you'll have just one - meaning less plastic in your wallet.
You'll have two separate 'accounts' that will hold your individual living expenses and meal entertainment balances (based on funds applied to those benefits from your salary deductions).
When you make a payment with your NSW Health Mastercard, the details of the transaction and the type of merchant (i.e. the place you're making the purchase) will automatically trigger the account the funds are taken from (and which cap entitlement it uses - either your Tax-free or Meal Entertainment Cap).

Example
You've signed up for both living expenses and meal entertainment for your new NSW Health Mastercard. You go to a restaurant for a meal and use the card to pay. If you have sufficient balance in your Meal Entertainment account, the purchase will count as meal entertainment and the funds will be taken from that account and count towards your Meal Entertainment Cap.
If you don't have enough funds in your Meal Entertainment account for the purchase, the funds will instead come from your living expenses account and count under your Tax-free Cap.
Important: This process doesn't work in reverse, meaning you won't be able to use a standard living expense purchase on your meal entertainment account (this account can only be used for valid meal entertainment purchases).
If you attempt to make a purchase for a living expense and don't have enough funds, even if you have funds on your meal entertainment account, the transaction will be declined.
